When I took photos last month, I was in a really depressive mood when processing them. I had just received a really bad review from my photography professor and I wasn’t taking it well. So, if the next few days/weeks seem to be moody…don’t worry, I’m much better now.

I really love the Orton Effect, but it’s difficult to find a picture where it works well. I was playing around with some of my older photos and this one just became amazing once I processed it this way. Let me know what you think!

I know I promised you all some Lions, Tigers and Bears a few days ago. Well, here’s my first photo from our trip to Out of Africa a few weeks ago. I love this wildlife park because they really let you get up close and personal with the animals. The chain link fence is all the protection I had from this beautiful tiger, but I didn’t mind because she actually was really nice and wanted to play. I love big cats and Out of Africa is definitely a great place to go if you want to see some :)

While walking around The Wynn, we got lost in the back halls where the ballrooms are. Unfortunately, they were all locked and couldn’t be seen or photographed. But, the hallways were beautiful enough the show off. I’m really becoming a fan of this HDR processing style, it’s way better for me than using some of the more common programs like Photomatix or HDR Pro.

When we went to Las Vegas last month, we had the rare opportunity to see the fog roll in. Being from such a warm, dry climate as Phoenix, I very rarely ever see fog…but, to see it with all the glitter and lights of LV, I was absolutely stunned! Here’s Caesar’s Palace in the fog.

While visiting my grandparents’ cabin in the Prescott woods a few months ago, I planned on attempting my hand at photographing the stars. Being from the middle of downtown Phoenix, I rarely ever get the opportunity. Obviously, I have much to learn…but, I like how this one came out. The bright light is the moon with my grandparents’ house on the bottom left corner.

This is the inside of Caesar’s Palace at the registration area. On my recent trip to Las Vegas I went around to most of the hotels and took some wide-angle shots of their registrations. This is probably one of the most gorgeous hotels on the strip and I have so many more upcoming photos to share. :)

After going to see the glacier near Skagway, Alaska, we went nature scouting in the boat. We saw a couple eagles, a porpoise and a killer whale from very far away. I now have a new-found respect for bird photographers since I discovered that it is REALLY difficult to take in focus pictures of birds :)

We went on a whale finding expedition in Juneau, Alaska. It was absolutely incredible! One of the rules of whale finding is that the boat is not allowed to come within 100 yards of the whale. Well, this group of whales kept circling around us and one even slapped it’s tail within 5 feet of our boat (I could have reached out and touched it)! Unfortunately, I had my zoom lens on and wasn’t able to catch it because it was so close. Since they came so close to us, we weren’t allowed to turn on our engines until they were at least 100 yards away. So, we sat there on the water watching these magical creatures swim around us in circles.

While hiking in Juneau, Alaska, I took some photos of various lichen I found. Growing up in Arizona, I’ve never really encountered spaces where lichen were extremely prevalent and/or easy to spot. This type of lichen is called Witches’ Hair Moss, also known as Alectoria sarmentosa.

Outside of Skagway, Alaska we went on a glacier tour. I love this photo because it shows the grandeur and size of the glacier. If you notice from the way the ice looks, there’s actually a river underneath. The glacier on top (which stretches for miles) is melting. The water flows down underneath this ice bank which continually freezes and melts creating this river flowing effect in the formation.
